This map is critical to the storyline. What you see throughout the entire plot is a progression from one side of the world to another. If you are following the story along with a picture of this map, it enhances the experience and clarifies lot of issues in regard to distance traveled, where everything lies, etc. Example: the trip from Fjennimor to East Metacil took numerous days of sailing, mostly because of the incredible distance that they needed to travel. It is nearly 2000 km to the east and therefore the weather would have been mostly in their favour the entire trip. This is one thing that the map helps you understand better and see for yourself how tough it was to traverse across the entire planet in search of runes and lore.
