Welcome to Valorien
This is a world where evil never rests. For thousands of years, Valorien has been under the pains of Boros, the demon lord of the netherworld. The last two thousand years have been years of remarkable prosperity and peace, especially in Corrent. Following the Great Civil Wars (which ended about 200 A.B. [after Boros]), there was a period where the church collapsed and the Stweard rule was established. Since then, all lore has been abandoned and legends have been burned, never to be written again. Some however hold to the truth: that there will be a saviour mong men. Rising from their own, the Correntians never see the day when Johnathon Christian arises as the new king. Banished for an act of treason he did not commit, he conspires with the Steward of Wulrik, King Corelli II, to leave their beloved land for the mystical lands across the sea. It is here he is to search for the bane of man, called The Sword of Time. John takes with him a group of long-time comrades: Lewick McCullough, archer and skilled ranger; Charles Fischer, elitist and poet; and Victor VonKamp, woodsmen and once-family-man, who recently lost his wife and kids to the peasant revolt in Villim. They meet with a shady character by the name of Cristopher Palmas, who, by name, is renowned for vigilante acts across the country of Eaton and Quido, which to the men is so foreign they believe it only to exist in myth. They cross the treacherous Juraga Mountains to find a small gypsy village amidst a hellish monster brawl. These are the last stand for the northern kingdoms against a very fast intrusion of Vladian creatures. It is amid these fields that john realizes the deep peril the world is in, and Quido is hardly the worst scenario. Over the next few months they travel across the world, gathering wisdom and trade, and most importantly, the Sword of Time. It is John's duty to carry the weapon, face his foe, and release the world from the endless millennia of torture it has experienced. Valkonia: This is the southernmost continent on Valorien's map. It consists of people that are somewhat taller than standard humans. They have elongated ears that allow for supreme hearing ability. Their muscle structures are the densest of all the civilizations' and allows them the best mix of speed and strength during combat. They are notoriously intelligent by nature in the areas of arts and music, but lack considerably in math and science. As a result, their warfare is developed within the realm of one-on-one combat and martial arts more than technological advancements seen in Corrent and Maiou. The Valkonians were the first wielder of the sword of Time, but failed in that battle to silence the minions of Boros and forfeited their right to use the sword to the Aztouins. Maiou: Pronounced MEYE-oh, these people have relied on the sea for their protection and their development since their creation. The second wielder of the sword of Time, the Maiouin people are vastly superior intellectually than any other civilization, and are also responsible for the spawning of the Eatonites and thus Chronicling the history of Valorien. They are stocky people with inset eyes and bold foreheads. Their jaws are defined as regal by their distant relatives (West Eatonites) in the second Chronicles of Valorien, and their overall demeanor is sophisticated and robust. They seldom lose control and are known to be more peaceful than any other civilization of the world. Their Monarchic system is developed further than the Feudal systems seen in Parol, Eaton, and Corrent as well, making them the ultimate authority when it comes to government and social issues. Aztou: Found in the crests of the rocky valleys between erupting volcanoes and boiling water spas, the Aztouin people are far from similar to the Maiouin. They value war, honour, power, and courage above all else. They use powerful war weapons and magic that are rivaled by no other race on Valorien. Their learning has resulted in a poor system of government but an excellent system of warfare, highlighting mathemtics and physics. They are also remarkable skilled in architecture (as a result of their math). They have a rivalry with the Maiouins that has been going on since their success against Boros in the third (and final) Great War of Valorien. After sentencing Boros to a millennia of sleep, the Maiouins scolded the Aztouins for their failure to put away the demon lord for good. In retort, the Aztouins charged the Maiouins with the reality that they had not successfully finished Boros either. Since that time, wars have been plenty, and the divided Oneland did not separate them enough to prevent these actions from continuing. Corrent: Corrent is the lesser of the four nations. They were the lowest in rank when the Oneland was in existence, performing the hardest labour as farmers. As a result, they quickly lost their magic abilities and became the front line in combat in all Great Wars. They regained status when the Oneland split and they were the centre of the world as it was rearranged. Their hold on the agricultural business gave them the ability to manipulate the other nations and gain much needed economic growth. If it weren't for a few civil wars, one of which completely wiping out the monarchic rule of the city-states, the nation of Corrent would have been surpassed by none in growth post-Great War three. Although Corrent lost much of their magic using ability, they gained in governmental development, mathematics/sciences, and business/trade relations. Their warfare style grew to become reliant upon foot soldiers and archers, who were able to revive the use of basic magic and apply it to the elite forces. As time went on, the Steward-Feudal system started to fade, but it was in time for the monarchy to be reassigned to the standing kingly line carried on by Johnathon Christian. Eaton: Descendants of the Maiouin race, the Eatonites are simply known as the Chroniclers. Located to the west of Maiou and to the north of Corrent, Eaton is split by the Plateau de Crosscliffe, a large boundary designed by Vlad-ama upon the final verdict of the third Great War. The separation has merely caused there to be difficulty in trade between the two nations, but for the most part, they remain unified and considered to be of the same nationality, albeit two differing states of residence. Very skilled in writing and history, the Chroniclers are virtually unknown to the rest of the planet. They live in silence in their own country, waiting the day when the people of Valorien will rise once again and finally end the battle of the ages against Boros. Parol: On the far eastern reaches of the continent East Metacil, there lies a quiet civilization that has been hidden for over 500 years. They live in the forests, and they call themselves Parolians. Parol is a province of Aztouin origin, but it's hardly a noticeable resemblance anymore. They are smaller people with lean muscular structure and usually ave light hair, as either red or blonde. Their ears are longer then Correntians and resemble something of a cat's. Their skills are forestry, architecture, and hunting. They have a moderately developed military that is based mostly on raiding tactics. Similar to the Celtic tribal warfare, they paint their bodies to blend in to the forest, not to stand out. Their paint isn't blue like woad, but it does have the superstitious ability to protect them in battle. They wield light arms, mostly javelin or single-handed swords. They are intelligent but lack in the cultural advancements of places like Corrent or Maiou and instead have vested their energies into honour and pride of their tribes. |
